How to tackle the infertility blues?

  1) Kill your self-pity
Self-pity is a good emotional lubricant when facing any adverse event in life. It helps to cry your eyes out. We all get some comfort after a nice crying spell. But on the long run it ruins your ability to fight-back the crisis. If you dwell on self-pity your development comes to a halt. ‘Why me?’ is the first question you ask yourself when you realize that your baby-making machinery has a defect. Once you come out of the ‘why me?’ stage and start thinking clearly you can find so many solutions which will help you to deal with your infertility effectively. So kill your self-pity in order to get a better view of the infertility crisis and to tackle it in a better way!

2) Knowledge is power!
Educate yourself about your condition. It will help you to come out of self-pity and see your infertility in a rational way. More you know about your condition lesser will be your pains. Remember, no one cares about you as much as you do, not even your doctor. In the field of infertility there are a wide variety of treatment options and each doctor will have his/her own style of approaching a problem. Only when you educate yourself you can actively participate in the decision making processes of your treatment which will give you immense satisfaction and will also spare you from unnecessary infertility tests and therapies. This means you can save more money and time which in turn might help you to reach your target (baby!) quicker. There is so much information about infertility on net. Infertility bulletin boards are full of knowledgeable ladies who can offer you emotional as well as intellectual support. Read blogs which are written by infertility specialists which will  give you authentic information.

3) Remove 'The God Factor’ from your infertility
Just like flu, just like heart problem, just like cancer, infertility is also a medical condition. God doesn’t make you infertile. God doesn’t want you to be infertile. Infertility is not God's curse. Please realize that praying to God and not taking proper medical treatment will not give you a baby; which you crave for! I have seen people going from temple to temple instead of going to a doctor. In infertility time is also one of the most important factors. Go to temple but also find a good doctor. After all, God can help you only when you help yourself. When you think ‘why God did this to me’ then it is also a source of major unhappiness. Again it will make you go into the self-pity mode. Remember that ‘The God Factor’ is a soothing medicine for your mind which in turn can help you feel better physically. When I say remove "The God Factor", I am not asking you to be nihilistic, I just ask you to be moderate and rational! Spirituality is not a cure for your infertility but it will help you to remain sane even if your attempts of conceiving a baby doesn't work as expected!

4) Socialize
Do not retract into your shell. Be with the company of good friends who will understand you and offer emotional support. When you socialize you will realize that people come in all different varieties and colours. Some might hurt you, some might offer their sympathy, some will empathize with you, some don’t care and few people can inspire you too! What people think of your infertility is their problem and not yours. As Bertrand Russell said, ‘A dog will bark more loudly and bite more readily when people are afraid of him than when they treat him with contempt, and the human herd has something of this same characteristic. If you show that you are afraid of them, you give promise of good hunting, whereas if you show indifference, they begin to doubt their own power and therefore tend to let you alone’. Do not give undue importance to people’s comments or thinking. Be bold to face the world and try to imbibe inspiration from the people you meet. Ultimately you will realize that everyone has their own journey filled with hope and desperation. You are never alone!

5) Try not to hide your infertility
You do not have to tell everyone about your infertility history. But be honest when your friends and relatives ask ‘aren’t you ready for kids yet?’ Tell them that you have problem with your ‘fertility apparatus’ and hopefully it will be mended soon :). I have personally experienced that this kind of frank answers make people behave themselves. This also stops them from pestering you with further questions so that you do not have to panic each and every time you meet them.

6) Forgive unreasonable people
People are often unreasonable. Forgive them anyway. This will not teach them anything but will help you to safe-guard your happiness and peace of mind. Forgiving doesn’t mean that you have to be docile all the time. If their words and actions hurt you never be afraid to tell them to mind their own business. Anger not expressed at the right time can cause damage too!

7) Stay away from superstition (and also from superstitious people!)
Fear is the major causative factor for superstitious beliefs and such beliefs will in turn keep you in fear’s grip all the time. Never get caught in that cycle. I find people’s attitude is infectious too. Avoid people with low self-esteem and superstitious beliefs. Not only they can reduce your confidence levels but can hurt you too. To tackle infertility you need lots of self-confidence. Never loose it to superstitious beliefs!

8) Count your fortunes
Some people undergo much more horrible suffering in this world than you can imagine. Infertility hurts but it is not going to kill you anyway. What doesn't kill you; will only make you stronger! Be thankful for your blessings. Try to help people who are not as fortunate as you are. It will keep you happy and to appreciate who you are!

9) Get out of abusive relationships
It is impossible to fight infertility alone. When your spouse does not support you and is abusive then there is no point in going through this exhaustive journey. Your partner must provide you with an emotional cocoon where you can get all the support from. He has to also safe guard you from spiteful in-laws (if you are not fortunate enough!). If he is abusive himself the only way to escape from mental stress is to quit the relationship. It is good for both your physical and emotional health.

10) Be selfish and pamper yourself
You are the person who is undergoing lots of stress physically and mentally. Love and pamper yourself. Never carry others problem in your mind. Your mother or mother-in-law’s problem of not being able to have a grandchild is something which they have to deal with. Be selfish to the core! Sometimes it is wise to be selfish.

A love story !

I have a friend. I met him during a summer evening when I used to go for walks. He is so smart and cute. I started to like him the moment I saw him. I think it is the same with him too. I wanted to go near him, feel the warmth of his closeness. I used to long for his proximity. But I am afraid of my DH. Whenever I went alone, without DH, I got the courage to go near him. The beauty is, he used to come too when no one is near me. As our relationship grew, we became closer. It felt so good to touch him; to pour my love through my hands. He too loved the warmth in my hands and in my voice. When I run my hands through his hair, it is a moment of bliss for both of us. I used to talk in my mother tongue but he is a German ! Language was never a problem for us. Do we need a language to express love ? Isn't eye contact and a warm touch more than enough ? Even when his family members are around, he comes to me when he sees me. They used to watch it with surprise. They heard me talk to him in my mother tongue. An elderly person from his family came out and talked to me. He said, I am very happy that he likes you so much. Just your voice is enough to make him come running for you, this is really strange, what are you talking to him ? :) I just gave a smile in return - can love be explained ?

This summer came. I went for walks avoiding DH intentionally. My eyes searched for him all the time but no sign of him. I wanted to ask his family members but I am a bit shy and a bit afraid. Today, I was riding a bicycle. Naturally, when I crossed his home my eyes searched for him. My heart longed to see him. I wanted to tell him that I am going to India for FET. I thought, if I see him today everything will be fine with my FET. Yes, irrational but isn't everything rational when in love ? Suddenly, I spotted him in his garden. I can't explain my joy in words. I just stopped the bicycle; some lady was sitting in the garden with him. I didn't mind, I called him. He looked at me and came running. I just hugged him, caressed his hair, but as I ran my hand through his body, I was shocked. He was not the same person I knew, the softness of his body was gone. Why is he like this - reduced to bones ! I could feel something is wrong. He had cough too. I looked at that lady, she said, he is not well for some time now. He had an infection, and his kidneys are no more working. I could feel my heart sink. My eyes showed my heart's pain. He just lay down allowing me to feel him. He really enjoyed it closing his eyes. I donno what kind of pain he is going through. His love for me didn't reduce a bit even when he is in extreme suffering. I really wished I could take away his pain.

My husband came and looked at me angrily, 'do you want to complicate our situation even more,' - that was the question in his eyes. I understood it. I do not want to hurt my DH too. But my heart longed to be near my friend who is in pain. I just said bye to my friend with tears in my eyes. On the way home my hubby said, wash your hands properly. I couldn't say a word, I just nodded my head affirmatively. My heart was heavy thinking about my friend's situation !

My husband loves me a lot. But the relationship I had with my friend is very special. We loved each other without any strings attached - just for the joy of love ! It gave us both so much happiness. The moment we spent together will always be there in my mind. Who said 'puppy love' is not a true one, and it will vanish. No love will go away forever, every pleasant feeling will stay for life. The only difference is - what I had is not 'puppy love' but 'cat love', yes my friend is a CAT ! Yet the love we shared is special and brought me so much happiness, I hope it's the same for him too !

How can a husband support his wife when undergoing an IVF cycle?

The best support for a woman who is going through an IVF cycle is her husband. The IVF journey is exciting and exhausting at the same time. The process is more physically demanding for a woman than for a man. When a woman lacks a supportive husband, it is almost impossible for her to sustain her energy and enthusiasm during the extremely draining IVF process. What can a husband do to make the process easier for his wife? What does a wife expect from her husband when undergoing an IVF cycle?

1)  Infertility is ‘ours’ , not ‘yours’ or ‘mine’

IVF is a costly process and the outcome of an IVF cycle is highly uncertain too.  This creates a lot of mental stress for couples who are undergoing the process. For a man this can be extremely frustrating and humiliating. He feels that the situation is out of his control and the financial strain can make him panic about the future. Suddenly, routine life comes to a full stop and everything seems to be revolving around creating a baby. In such a situation, most men feel powerless. They do not know how to express their helplessness and may resort to anger. When in anger, you may spill words which are out of your control and can emotionally scar your wife. If your wife is having problems with her fertility, and if you tell her during your angry moment that it is because of her inability to conceive a child that you are suffering emotionally and financially, then it can create lots of heartache for your wife. This kind of blaming will make her feel more guilty and unloved. This can in turn cause enormous damage to your relationship. You should remember that she is already bearing the entire physical brunt of the IVF process and her infertility is not her fault. Infertility and IVF treatment are testing times for your relationship. If you keep in mind that infertility is not an individual’s problem, you tend to support each other better. You are each other’s better-half’s and being the best-half (a thoughtful, supportive, understanding husband) will help your spouse to go through this IVF journey with minimal heart-ache , which in turn will help you too to cope with this journey better.

2)      Get involved in the process

A man’s role in the IVF process is much less arduous when compared with the woman’s. In fact, the entire IVF process revolves around the woman. From the beginning of ovarian stimulation to embryo transfer; a woman has to take many injections; have many vaginal ultrasound scans and blood tests; and then go to the OT for egg collection and embryo transfer. All these processes can be very exciting - and physically and emotionally stressful too. Many men think that their only job is to act as a ‘sperm donor’. While their wife is busy taking all the prescribed medicines and travelling to the clinic frequently for undergoing vaginal ultrasound scans, most men are totally clueless as to what is going on. They prefer to keep themselves detached. It’s not that they are unkind – it’s just that this is the commonest coping mechanism men deploy. This will make his wife feel lonely and abandoned in the process. She may jump to the erroneous conclusion that her husband does not care about her – or about the deep desire she has for a baby! Actually, baby-making is exciting when both the partners’ involve themselves completely - let it be in the privacy of your bed room, or in an IVF clinic. The best support a man can provide to his wife when undergoing IVF is to dive deeply in the process. As a husband you can do many simple things which will make the IVF process less stressful for your wife. You can remember the medicine schedule; ask your wife whether she took them at the proper time and in a proper dosage, you can give her the injections yourself, accompany her to the clinic, be with her during the vaginal ultrasounds and hold her hand during the embryo transfer. All this will help to make the IVF baby-making process come alive for you too. Being involved will also help you to appreciate the pains your wife is undergoing for the sake of the much yearned baby. In this way, you will also be able to empathize with her, and your emotional connection will be much deeper.

3)      Communication is the key to coping better!

I agree that it is not easy for a man to be as expressive as a woman, but communication is very important for a good relationship and couples who have good communication skills fare far better in times of crisis. IVF process is draining and most wives are clueless about what their husbands are going through emotionally! I myself used to wonder what is going on in my husband’s mind. Even if I coax him to be a bit more expressive it just doesn’t seem to work – and he feels I am nagging him. As a result, I worry for myself and for him too! If he shares what he is going through with me, I can extend my emotional support to him - and as a result I get better emotional protection too! The coping mechanism for stress is very different for a woman and for a man. This greatly adds to the chaos. As a woman, when I talk about my fears and insecurities about my IVF journey , and when my husband listens patiently , I feel instantly better , because I can see he cares for me. This is all I want – I understand the outcome is not in my hands or his, but unburdening myself helps me cope better with my anxieties. But my husband’s view is different. He feels that instead of talking about the problem (which is stressful according to him!), it’s better to just forget about it and immerse yourself in some kind of entertainment. He wants to distract himself with something else which will give him happiness. If this is the scenario in your situation too then it is very important to strike a balance between your needs and your wife’s. Just sit with her like a friend and discuss the IVF journey – or let her just vent. Remember she does not expect solutions – just a kind ear and a shoulder to cry on! Even if your wife’s concerns appear to be unreasonable, take time to listen to them patiently and try to clear her fears and doubts. When an IVF cycle fails, the best help you can provide your wife is to talk about it! (Many men avoid talking about it altogether, because they find this too painful!) Tell her that an IVF failure is not her fault and even though it is difficult for you too, the pain of it will not last long. Assure her that you love her as always and infertility cannot come in between you. Try sharing with her your worries too. Sharing your emotional insecurities with your wife will assist her in understanding you better and offer you her support. This will give her immense satisfaction because women love to act as ‘emotional caretakers’!

4)      Express your love and affection

The best time to show your spouse that you care is during the difficult moments of your life. Many men empathize with their wife because of the pains they need to endure during an IVF cycle. But they do not know how to express what they feel. There are many cute little ways to show that you love and care. A bunch of roses or a cute little card with some nice words, a genuine compliment or a surprise dinner can bring back her smile and happiness during stressful IVF times. Taking part in the daily house hold chores will also make her sense that you really care! It will make her feel loved and appreciated. It will also erase her fears and worries concerning your emotional well-being. Your kind actions will tell her that you are emotionally OK and you are able to cope well and take care of her too!

5)      Let us learn together

The IVF process will be less stressful if you are well-informed about it. You might be busy with your work, but even then it is wise to spend some time with your wife so that both of you can learn about the process. Learning will be easier and fun when it is done together. Please do not discourage your wife from understanding the intricacies of the process. Learning is not obsessing!  Acquiring knowledge about the IVF process will give your wife the satisfaction that everything is going on well with the cycle. Even if troubles arise during the IVF cycle, she will be able to cope emotionally better when she is knowledgeable. The same applies to you too. Only when you both understand what is going on during an IVF cycle can the two of you have a rational discussion with your doctor and get involved in the process. Otherwise you will be left with a feeling that you are not in charge of the situation, and will feel betrayed and miserable when the treatment fails!

6)      Please do not allow your parents to interfere!

This will be the sincere wish of many women undergoing IVF, including me. Does it mean that we see our in-laws as an unwanted intervention in our life? Definitely not! The comfort level of a woman with her in-laws is very different from the comfort level she shares with her own parents. Any husband will understand this if he compares the comfort level he shares between his own in-laws and his parents. IVF is an emotionally challenging process and unsympathetic in-laws can add a ton of stress to the already difficult IVF treatment. Many do not understand the process scientifically. It is hard to explain this to them and clear their unreasonable doubts and fears. Because of the concern and fear they have, they make a lot of well-meaning suggestions, as to what to eat and what not to; and what precautions to take during the IVF process. This might force us to behave in ways which we are not actually comfortable with. For example, my mom gets very tensed and fearful after my embryo transfer. She will say ‘Manju, walk slowly, sleep with your legs straight, do not climb stairs, do not lift any weight (even if it a few grams!), do not eat chicken (or certain foods!)’. Whatever she says is out of love, but the mental stress such constant pestering (especially when you know that all these things will not stop an embryo from implanting!) creates is hard to describe in words. All this talk constantly reminds me of the embryos within my womb! This makes me worry about myself - and I end up worrying about her too! I keep on thinking, what will happen if this cycle fails; how my mom will cope with it; and there is a tremendous sense of guilt, because of my belief that it is because of my defective reproductive system that she has to undergo this kind of emotional roller-coaster at this age!). I feel inadequate that I cannot give her the grand child she yearns for. On the other hand, if it is ‘MY MOM’ I have the freedom to tell her to shut up. I can either pacify her with my kind words or vent my anger. She will understand what I am going through. Is it possible to act like this with your in-laws? The stress levels during the IVF treatment and the 2ww are very high, and it nearly impossible to keep silent and be polite all the time. Another important point is, if the cycle fails my mother will not blame me but if I do not act according to my in-law’s advice and if the cycle fails, I will be blamed for the failure all the time! This will make the relationship between me and my in-laws bitter and unmendable. There are also in-laws who can act in spiteful ways which can be very hurting during the IVF journey. So please avoid telling your parents all the gory details about the IVF treatment. This will definitely help you and your wife to get along better during stressful times!

7)      I am emotionally vulnerable- please realize this!

Women are ruled by their hormones-especially during an IVF cycle! Because of all the drugs she is taking , there is be a hormonal roller-coaster going on inside her body. Some hormones drop, rise high and then drop again. These kinds of rapid changes in hormone levels can contribute to increased anxiety and depression in many women. Women can experience lots of crying spells and moodiness during this time. She might get irritated for no valid reason. I have personally experienced that these are the times I am very vulnerable to a variety of negative emotions and as a result I make my husband’s condition miserable. I agree that your wife might be getting on your nerves at such times. She might behave totally irrationally and maybe emotionally uncontrollable (like a ‘raving lunatic’!). The best thing you can do during such moments is to offer her a shoulder to cry on and patiently hear her fears and concerns. Even if you are right about your viewpoint, please do not argue. Choose to be kind over being right at these times and it will avoid many further heart aches for you and your wife!

8)      It is hard for your wife not to obsess- please understand this!

During the IVF treatment, especially during the 2ww, you will find that a new person has taken over your wife-a soul which is totally lost in its own thoughts, a person who wants to sit in front of the computer and search on the internet for pregnancy symptoms, forgetting the whole world, a woman who is constantly concentrating on all the small signs and signals her body might be giving and panicking about the same. She might even emotionally retract from you. I agree that it is very uncomfortable for a husband to see his wife like that. You might want her to forget about the embryo transfer and be normal as usual. You might want her to take notice of you, take care of you and get on with normal life. You might want to make the situation easier for your wife but none of your efforts to distract her from obsessing seems to work. You might feel totally helpless. You will fear that she is totally stressed out and might wonder about the negative impact of stress on embryo implantation. Please understand that there are psychological and emotional differences between men and women and your way of coping with the stresses of IVF is very different from your wife’s way of coping. So try to accept her style, and give her the space she needs. Trying to criticize her for being too emotional or sensitive will just add to her stress levels. Constantly accusing her for obsessing during the 2ww or saying that her way of dealing with the 2ww is ‘crazy’ will interfere with her way of coping and might leave her totally anxious and depressed. Allow her to obsess since this actually helps her to cope with the 2ww!

 9)       Don’t be overprotective

During the ‘2ww’ many husbands tend to become overprotective. They want their wives to be careful about everything they do. Some don’t even want their wife to get out of bed! Although you might think that you are being kind and caring, this kind of overprotection can make your wife uncomfortable. Your actions might remind her all the time about the embryos inside her uterus. Once the embryos are inside the uterus, nothing she does will affect the chance of implantation. If the embryo is good enough and the uterine receptivity is optimum the embryo will implant - otherwise it will not! This is the only truth, as established by medical science. So do not force her to do things with which she is not comfortable. Keeping an eye on her all the time and forcing her to rest in bed all day long (because of your insecurity!) will put unnecessary stress on her. Allowing her to do the normal day-to-day activities will help her to take time off from obsessing. It will be also helpful if you avoid unreasonable questions like-‘are you feeling anything?’, ‘do you feel pregnant?’ etc!

Infertility is.......

1) the love we carry for our unborn child

2) the happiness we feel when we see small children

3) the respect we develop towards all forms of life

4) the love we feel towards our understanding, supportive and selfless partner

5) the surprise - when we hear how our friends get pregnant by accident!

6) the wonder - when we see the growing belly of a pregnant woman!

7) the affection we develop towards couples who lead a happy child-free life

8) the wisdom we gain in life even though we are still too young to learn all those lessons

9) the gratefulness we feel towards people who do not make awkward suggestion, awkward comments and ask awkward questions!

10) the tear we shed when we read about an unknown, unwanted baby abandoned in a dustbin

11) the refinement we attain in our thoughts, words and deeds!

12) a blessing which keeps us appreciating the beauty of life and all life forms

In short, infertility is everything (every positive emotion) in an infertile woman’s life. Infertile women don’t have an evil eye but an empathetic view of everything. Infertile women don’t have a jealous heart but carry motherly warmth in their deeds. Infertile women are not possessed with spirits but they try hard to live life with a positive spirit.

If you are struggling to have a baby and when people hurt you with their words and deeds just remember one thing – a happy person doesn’t hurt anyone. Only people who lead a miserable life filled with guilt, suspicion, superstition, unhappiness, dissatisfaction, pride and fear desire to hurt others. If you meet them by chance; have pity on them, be diplomatic, smile and move on! That is what I do!

And friends, if you know someone who is striving hard to have their baby; please avoid this question for God’s sake – Is there any good news?’ If you think having a baby is the only good news in your life – we are sorry for you!

A letter to my embryos - with LOVE !

Dear Blasties, (I wish I could call you children!)

How are you both? Hope you are feeling fine inside my uterus! Is it warm and comfortable enough? Does my activity disturb you in anyway?  I know that the bedding I have provided you is not so great. Is it difficult to snuggle in because of that? Have you apposed to the endometrium, had a successful cross-talk and started to invade? Did the endometrium welcome you with appropriate adhesion molecules , cytokines, growth factors, proteinases and neoangiogenesis factors? If it doesn’t, please do not give up. Coax it to produce all that you need for successful attachment. You can do it!  When I saw you both on Friday, after the thaw (after defreezing) you both looked perfect - as if you have woken up from a nice sleep (of course, it is a sleep but cold sleep!). You didn’t even show the slightest strain of the vitrification process. I even felt that you both smiled :) I thought how competent you both are! Even the embryologist commented how good you both look! So never ever give up the struggle!

I know it will be hard inside. The place you both were formed (in the petri dish in the IVF lab) is so different from the environment within my body . For 6 long days you spent your life in an artificial set-up, and then you both were kept metabolically silenced for 7 long months! I do understand it will be scary inside the uterus. You meet so many different molecules and cells you haven’t met before.  But, remember little ones, this is the place you belong to! This is where you can be happy. This is where your real developmental potential is tested.  This is the place which gives you scope for further development. Of course, life in an IVF lab incubator is easy and cozy. There you are fed at appropriate time, supplied with proper nutrients and the embryologist must have pampered you a lot! But, only obstacles and struggle make you stronger , and not the pampering. Without struggle there is no progress in life (both in yours and in fully developed organisms)! That is the norm in this world. This is the first lesson you both have to learn. If you want to come out with flying colours, fight against the obstacles. When you overcome each and every obstacle inside the uterus , you are one step closer to becoming a full-fledged baby.

Are you aware that you became blastocysts from the supernumerary embryos which they wanted to wait and watch in vitro before they could freeze you ? You passed that difficult test and that is why you are inside my uterus today. The other embryos which were with you failed to develop and were discarded. The difference between you and all the other discarded ones are- they gave up the fight, they gave up the struggle to survive!  So, whatever way I look at you both- YOU ARE SPECIAL! You definitely have the potential to develop into beautiful babies! Please do fight hard to come into this world. I will not promise you that life on earth is as easy as pie, but for sure it is very beautiful! You have very good people to protect you and take care of you.

There are lots of people longing to see you as babies. The most important person is your dad. I am gifted to share my life’s journey with him. He is a very calm and composed person. Normally, he doesn’t show any overt emotions in his face or speech (be it happiness or sadness!). When we both saw you through the IVF lab microscope , I could not understand what kind of emotions were playing in his mind. He never talks about it. He didn’t allow me to enter the kitchen until now. Yesterday, I tried to cajole him so that I could gain back my territory (I cook super duper good food!), but he refused my plea and went on to  cook some beans with tomato. Sadly, the dish was horrible, but I ate it quietly without any reaction. When he tasted it, he also ate quietly and after few minutes he said- sorry Manju! :) I could not control my smile but to tell the truth, because of the love he mixed with the food it was very palatable ! Now-a-days, he gives me a foot massage. It is a soothing gentle touch, and I love his hands rubbing the sole of my foot. This is one of the most relaxing moments for me. He knows that very well but he never did it on his own -  I would have to plead for a foot massage every time. But, now-a-days, even if I say no, he takes my feet , keeps it on his lap and rubs it gently. Do you understand why? It is  for you both! He wants you both to snuggle in, attach and become his children. I carry you both in my uterus but he carries you both  in his heart. Are you listening? Does it feel good to hear about him? Please young ones , please attach to me and grow into healthy babies! There are also so many other people who are praying for you and waiting for you too – if I have to tell you about everyone , I will need several more pages!

When I talked about prayer, I remember on the embryo transfer day, Dr.Malpani asked me,  ‘Manju, which God are you praying to?’ To tell the truth I prayed to nobody and I do not want to pray to anybody. I told him the same. I asked him whether he believes in God. He said yes and I asked him why ? He said ‘I do not have a rational explanation and I also think it is ok for the heart and the head not to agree with each other :) When he transferred you both inside my uterus, he again said ‘pray’! But I didn’t! I was so adamant! I am not angry with God and neither am I blaming God for my situation. I simply do not believe that praying will help. I just enjoyed the moment you both went inside me and relaxed. But, little ones, when I think of it now , I wonder whether I should have said a short prayer to some God? What do you both think? Will it have helped you? Have I spoiled your chances of becoming a baby? But, still I believe, if I pray or not,  nothing is going to change. Prayer can bring about a sense of relaxation but on that day I am surrounded by good people and I am actually very happy and relaxed. Even if you both become my babies I am not going to teach you about the concept of God. Being good and being a theist has no connection. I will teach you to be good human beings and you have to decide whether you need God or not when you grow-up! I think, in this way I can safe-guard you from the unnecessary guilty feelings most humans suffer in the name of God.

Today is the 5th day of your stay within me. I sit here wondering what is going on with you both. I wish you could send me some signals so that I could feel your presence all the time. Carrying you both in my uterus is not difficult (even those 9 months won’t be difficult!) but carrying you both in my mind is driving me crazy! I wish the test date never comes! It feels so good to be pregnant , at least in my heart . I have lots to say. But all that can wait. The main message is NEVER EVER GIVE UP! My love to you both! Fight as much as you can. Life is a beautiful struggle and struggle is what makes you HUMAN and keeps you human!

Waiting with lots of love,

Mom
